I am not a parent yet
But I have been a nanny for several years to 4 beautiful children. My number one tip is to get the kids on a schedule. It is best for everyone and the children seems a lot happier having a routine.

I just discovered a new snack everyone loves. Frozen grapes! They’re portable and easy.
19 Jul 10
Reuse everything! The best one is to take a mini M&M tube and use it for crayons. Kids can color while waiting for a Dr apt, in line at the store, or like last night at the restaurant when they were out of crayons!
19 Jul 10
Take plenty of snacks. I pack them in the snack size bags and throw them back to the kids as needed.

grow something together. this is our second year to have a garden and our son loves going out to water or just check things out. such great moments caring for and nurturing something as a team!

I take old pill bottles tear off the labels and put formula in them for quick easy storage in my diaper bag. It’s a huge time saver too!
19 Jul 10
To help the kids keep toys put away, I have bins which all have printed pictures and the words of what belongs inside. My kids are both under 3 (and another on the way) so clean up is a chore but with the photos, the task is faster and easier. It’s a matching game in itself!

I have discovered that suckers work wonders!!! I can keep 2-3 in my purse and pull them out only in sheer desperation. They stay a treat that way!

Popsicles can be messy for little ones so take a paper baking cup (the things you use for muffins and cupcakes) and stick it on the end of the popsicle stick below the popsicle. Catches all the drips!!

I am a mom of four… my best advice, always have baby wipes…keep some in the car, in your purse, or anywhere you see fit. They are great for after the park, before dinner wipe down, or even for your face after a workout. I go nowhere without them.
19 Jul 10
my new found laundry tip ad vinegar to laundry soap and put directly on stain (almost everything comes out)!!!
19 Jul 10
Have two set of sheets and mattress cover on your kids bed. They get sick and throw up. Take top set of sheets and mattress cover off and you already have a clean set ready.
19 Jul 10
Washing the baby/kid socks in a lingerie bag makes for easy sorting! We never lose socks anymore!
19 Jul 10
I make colored ice to add to water to get the kids to drink more water during the hot summer days.

Get the kids involved with cleaning up by making it fun! Set timers, goals, and even a small reward…they compete to see who gets it done first, and I don’t have to clean it all myself!

My kids do some funny things and I find that they are easily forgotten if not recorded. I now have a pad of paper on my kitchen counter just for writing down memorable, humourous, etc. happenings. When it is time for me to scrapbook or write in their journals I just grab the notebook to refresh my memory. This memory notebook now frees up the memory in my brain for other important things.

I keep an extra diaper bag in the car….spare clothes for everyone, a shirt for me, diapers, wipes, underwear (for the potty trained kids)….I also keep extra snacks in a snack bag–cheerios, granola bars, crackers. It makes errands & LIFE so much easier to have the basics taken care of!

Besides snacks, always have wipes by you!

I wear a thumb ring so that when I nurse our little girl I can move the thumb ring from one hand to the other to know which breast I started on last

One thing that really helped me when my daughter was a baby was keeping a check list in the diaper bag of everything I need to take with me. That way I wouldn’t forget something because inevitably I would forget the pacie, or a burp cloth, or wipes…there was always something left out.

A recent discovery that is very handy is the Easy Diner Mat. It is awesome for toddlers learning to feed themselves. It suctions to any table top/smooth surface and plates don’t slide around on it. The tray catches all the food that misses their mouth making for easy clean up. It rolls up compact to fit into any diaper bag.

keep crayons handy for toddlers/preschoolers…will buy you 5-10 minutes at restaurants, etc.

To protect a large floor plant or dog dish from crawling babies, buy some carpet protecting plastic (they sell it by the foot at Lowes). You know, the kind with the pokey plastic on the bottom so it can grip the carpet? Turn it upside down. When baby puts a hand on it she won’t like how it feels and will avoid the area. Saved me from cleaning up spilled dog water several times a day!

Hi there, I’m a first time mommy of a beautiful 6 month baby boy, and my BEST advice is ALWAYS BE HAPPY!!! no matter where you are, what you do, or who are you with, don’t stress yourself, because you will stress your little one. Singing helps me and it makes me have a great bond with my baby

I keep extra socks, sun hats, and blankets in the car for when we walk around town. I seem to always forget those little things.
Also I keep a converter in the car and take my breast pump everywhere I go so I don’t have to go home to pump. I can just pump while I’m out and about!

Baby wipes are a must have, even when your kids are out of diapers. I have one box that stays in the living room for quick wipe downs of sticky hands, faces, even the sticky television set! I keep them in my car for the same reason!
25 Jul 10
Use your old baby wipes tub by filling them with grocery sacks, put it in the car for dirty diapers, car sick kiddos, wet/dirty clothes or shoes or anytime you just need an extra sack.

in addition to a change of clothes for your baby in the diaper bag, be sure to pack a change of clothes for yourself. my baby had a serious blow out diaper and i had to walk around with a huge spot until we got home! *sigh*

My best tip is to have baby wipes in every room of the house including the car- and to keep snacks in zip lock bags eveywhere.

teach your kids to use a computer as young as 2 years old ,with supervision at first of course .then later when they a computer savvy, which happens very fast they are entetaining themselves for as long as you wish them to be;.. it is a welcome break on a hectic day ,and gives the parent time to relax or do chores that require attention to detail without the child constantly asking you to do this and that, bill

Give your child either a roll of quarters or a M&M tube full of quarters at the beginning of a road trip. Every time they whine or act up they have to give you a quarter. What they have left, they get to spend while on vacation.
