I thought it would be fun for Valentine’s Day to share a LOVE story with you.

My husband, Dave and I met in college at a volleyball game. I was a college freshman and he was getting his masters degree. He was also the head soccer coach.  (He can still remember exactly what I was wearing at the volleyball game. Major points for hubs!) He went upstairs later and looked me up and found out that I was merely a freshman. He decided that I was too young for him then. We were friends for three years. I worked in the weight room and he always took his team in there to do their work outs. I would get up really early (around 6:30 am) and roll my hair in curls even if I just put it up in a ponytail because I thought he was so cute. I saw him on campus praying with his soccer players and it would always melt my heart. I used to tell all my friends that I was going to marry someone “like him” not really thinking that I had a chance to actually marry him since he was on the college staff. This had it’s advantages because since I didn’t think I had a chance with him, I was always really outgoing with him. I worked with the prayer ministry and he later confessed that he would walk around in the library near the offices hoping to find me. (It turns out the prayer ministry was in a different location!) I on the other hand, would give his players rides to their dorms and tell them what a “hot” soccer coach they had. When I became a junior Dave decided to ask the vice president of the university if he was allowed to take me out on a date. A month later the VP got back to him and said yes. Around this time, I had mentioned to him that I was moving dorms so he called my room to offer to help me move. I was excited to get his message but didn’t really think too much of it. I told my dad what the call was about that evening and he said “This guy likes you! Guys don’t just call to help you move unless they really like you.” I was thinking “NO WAY and was pretty excited!” A few days later my roommate had a note that he had called my dorm and as soon as I saw it, I knew there was a chance that he might like me. I called him back, he asked me to dinner and the rest is HISTORY! We got married in the chapel at Houston’s First Baptist Church in 2001. I actually got a year of free school since we married the summer before my senior year and he was on staff. (You know I had to throw a bargain into the story!)

Y’all have a great love story. You might have inspired me to write ours out too. I love that he called the VP of the school for permission. I had to laugh about the bargain you threw in there. That was too funny!

What a great story! I love to hear how couples met! And I’m thinking that a year of free school might be your best bargain ever??

… and I’m happy to say that the chief and I met you before Dave’s family did and gave a hearty stamp of approval. :-)
